Coping with Infertility

Coping with Infertility

At Queensland Fertility Group we know that coping with infertility may be a lonely, frustrating and isolating experience as couples see the majority of their friends encountering no apparent difficulty in having children.

Infertility can also place strains on a couple's relationship. It may affect communication with each other, sexual relations, self confidence and plans for the future. It is likely to dominate many aspects of a couple's lives.

Our Gold Coast clinic offers a comprehensive and confidential service to help patients during diagnosis and treatment of infertility.

Our nurses

Our nurse co-ordinators are available to you to discuss any problems that you encounter before, during or as a result of treatment.

Counsellor

We have an experienced crisis counsellor available on Thursdays and by phone for counselling at other times. Assistance in coping with stress, grief, loss and anxiety is commonly sought by couples and individuals.

Patient Support Groups

When having infertility treatment it helps to talk to others going through the same experience.

We have a local patient support group available on the Gold Coast. The group meets on the 1st Tuesday of every month at the Southport Surf Life Saving Club in Main Beach at 7pm. RSVPs not required. For more information contact Beth Cowling at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Our patients also receive a 12 month membership to "Friends of Queensland Fertility Group" in Brisbane, an independent patient support group established by infertile couples. "Friends" meets in Brisbane every 3 months and also produces a quarterly newsletter. For more information about 'Friends" go to www.friendsqfg.org.au

ACCESS

ACCESS is a national consumer based infertility association. It can be an excellent resource for information and support.

Some member services include:

  • provision of a range of fact sheets covering many aspects of infertility.
  • OPTIONS groups which provide contact for those sharing a particular infertility experience.
  • a Contact Request Network to put people in touch by email, letter or phone.
  • monthly eNews.
  • a register of infertility self help groups, which have been established in regional areas around Australia and New Zealand.
