Secondary infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant, or to carry a baby to term, following the birth of one or more naturally conceived children.
Despite the fact that secondary infertility is more common than primary infertility, couples are less likely to seek treatment. They also tend to receive less support from family and friends as they already have one child and are less likely to acknowledge it.
Causes of secondary infertility are the same as for primary infertility with female age being the most important reason to quickly acknowledge the problem and seek treatment.
